8 Brides From One Family Wore the Same Lucky Dress Over the Years

Serena Stoneberg Lipari got married on August 5, 2022, but she said “I do” to her dress decades ago. The 27-year-old newlywed is the latest of the eight brides in her family to wear the lucky wedding dress purchased by her grandmother in 1950 for $100 at a Marshall Field’s department store.

None of the Brides Have Been Divorced

Serena always knew she wanted to wear the lucky dress in some part of the wedding. She recalls looking at the photos of the gown while growing up and thought that she would wear it when she falls in love with the right person. This happened in 2013 at a family wedding where she first met Chris Lipari.

None of the brides who previously wore the dress divorced, and Serena knew she should commit to the right person. Also, all but one of the women, Adele Larson Stoneberg – the very first bride, are still living and joined the most recent bride on her big day.

The First Bride Passed Away Just Before Serena’s Birth

Although Adele Larson Stoneberg could never make it to the actual wedding, Serena shares that it felt like her grandmother was at her wedding day. The whole family knows how special the dress is; this is all they talked about on Serena’s wedding weekend.

The Dress Was Never Pushed for Family Members to Wear It

While wearing the same dress may seem like a family tradition, the lucky gown was never pushed on family members to wear. Serena even picked a second dress for her evening reception.

The dress remains in pristine condition in storage at a family home, although it has required some alterations over the years. Having in mind that “the dress” may not be for everyone, Stoneberg Lipari hopes that her daughter would wear it someday, becoming one of the honored brides in the family.
